  • RULE 5: Automatic Grammar

You should learn grammar while listening to a real language. The best way is to listen to the same story told in different times, or from different points of view. Learning in this way you will use grammar correctly and automatically.

  • RULE 6: Use only the lessons and materials with a live English.

Lesson VII How to became a translator?

Many, many people appreciate having such a job like translator. But this job can improve your language skills more than any job with language. A good translator need not only to think in language he or she is translating but also understand a language as a culture, people, which use it normally and know how to use some useful tools like dictionaries and sites or books. It also depends what she or he is translating, but for example if someone is translating an add, that person need to understand for who was this add and what was the point.

I will introduce some fact about being a translator.

-Philology studies are necessary. FALSE

You do not need to finish philology studies. You have to learn the language. Soak up the extralinguistic knowledge. Have a hobby and passion for something. Because being a translator doesn´t mean you will translate everything. You should have a specific knowledge, which will make you the best. Reading a book in both languages can improve your skills. And implement other standard or less standard ideas, so that can be rotated in the bilingual range of vocabulary and phraseology of the area that you are interested.

-You need to be good in your mother language. TRUTH

There is no way to being a good translator without knowledge about your mother language. Probably most of the translating job will be from foreign language to your own. Issues correctness, punctuation, style, correct terminology. Language dictionary, thesaurus, dictionary spelling and others every translator should have at his-her fingertips.

-You have to be multiexperienced. FALSE

If you are good in chemistry and know the words and how it works, start to be a translator who i specializing in chemistry translations. If you are good in sport, start to be a sport or media translator. You will see you can gain something more than job. But you will connect something, which you are good in and something you like. People will be totally glad if you will know what are you doing.

Lesson VI

Today a lesson for a teacher. Yeah, teacher is a person who also need to spread its knowledge till he-she can!

How to get your students to stop translating and start thinking in English?

Students do not often translate things in their heads before answering you. You do not hear often students who provide a natural-sounding reply, spontaneously and automatically. Chances are most of your students still translate in their heads. Your point and goal is to teach them think in English not to translate everything from their mother langauge into English. This is really hard thing to achieve. In this post I will explain to you how to teach them thinking in English, that is why they will no need to tranlsate everything in theirs heads. They want to learn to speak English, not become translators. Even though thos basics will be very usefull to became a translator someday, because this ability will introduce them to the world of translation. KEY WORDS  It is very uncomfotable and very tiring to think in their native langauge and translate it into the Engslih, is the most common reason why students are making mistakes.
It stops spreading a flowing way in speaking English.
Some things are simply too hard to translate.

TIPS
1
English Dicionary
Try to give to your students an English-English dictionary. The explanation of the definitions will quickly stay in their head.

2
Actors
You can use other tecnics to learn something your students. Instead of writing words on the blackboard try to act with them. Show them a sad face while speaking about bad mood, they will remeber the gestures and mimics much faster than what they wrote in the note books.

3
Context
Most of the time teacher have no idea if the class or a group is understanding everything what is on blackboard or what he-she says. That is why ithis is important to ask them about the words they have in the lessson and reapeat with them at least twice or more. Ask every of them about at least one word you will sure that even they will not remeber them all, one word is better than nothing.

4
Phrases

Apart from the separte word the whole phrases are much imporant. With help of them they will faster get English as fluent and flowing language.

Share with me in the comments what do you think and what is your way to teaching!

Lesson V

READING

Reading is one of the most important skills, which can make your English more fluent and rich in the words. The same in any language you want to learn and even in your mother language. The more you are reading the more words you are trying to remember.

Tips for good reading:

1. Find a book on the right level of you language. If you will need to look into the dictionary every second it will be boring for you.
2. Make your own notebook with words you could not understand. Then translate them after reading. Then back to the book and remember the context. You do not need translate agency.
3. Read in every free moment you can. You do not need to read an our a day. It still should be a pleasure for you.
4. Not only books mean reading. You can also buy newspapers in English:
Some British newspapers:

  • The Telegraph
  • The Times
  • The Independent
  • The Guardian
  • The Financial Times (business)
  • The Sunday Times
Some American newspapers:
  • The International Herald Tribune
  • The New York Times
  • The Wall Street Journal (business)
